Teaching with Old Lessons
Examine early 20th-century schoolbooks and posters to explore historical lessons on hygiene and civic values.

WORKSHOP - Limited to 20 guests

Sep 12, 2025 Sep 25, 2025

This workshop invites teachers, education students, and history enthusiasts to explore archival schoolbooks and posters once used to teach sanitation and hygiene. Using high-quality facsimiles, participants will analyze lessons from the early 1900s, discuss their social and cultural contexts, and reflect on how they shaped public attitudes toward water and health. Facilitators will guide small group activities where attendees design short “sample lessons” inspired by the old materials, re-imagined for today’s classrooms.

By the end of the session, participants leave with a deeper appreciation of how textbooks once carried civic values, and how those approaches still resonate—or differ—in modern education. Materials and templates are provided, and registration is capped at 20 participants to allow for active discussion.
