Building Waterways, Shaping Communities is a hands-on workshop designed for participants who want to explore the engineering and design behind the Carriedo Waterworks. Guided by museum staff and guest facilitators, attendees will learn how aqueducts, reservoirs, and fountains were planned and constructed in the late 19th century. Using scale models, replica tools, and guided blueprints, participants will work in small groups to design and build their own miniature water distribution systems, experimenting with flow, pressure, and storage.
The workshop combines history with applied creativity. Alongside the practical activity, curators will showcase authentic artifacts—such as pipe fragments, stone samples, and early design sketches—to give context to the engineering challenges of the period. A reflection session will close the workshop, inviting participants to share their creations and discuss how water infrastructure continues to shape modern cities.
Unlike the other Carriedo events, this workshop has limited capacity to ensure close guidance. Registration is required, with a maximum of 25 participants. Slots are first-come, first-served, and all materials will be provided by the museum.
