Tools of the Builders shines light on the men and materials that made the Carriedo Waterworks possible. Inside the gallery, tables and cases display chisels, hammers, lanterns, and pipe fragments used in construction and maintenance. Alongside these historic items, safe replicas allow visitors to pick up tools, test their weight, and imagine how workers handled them underground. Demonstrators will show how bricks were stacked into arches to hold water channels, how lime mortar was applied, and how joints were sealed to prevent leaks.

Children can join a “mini mason” corner where small clay bricks are provided to build simple arches, giving them a taste of the physical skill required. For older guests, interpretive panels and photographs show workers at the reservoir site, connecting the tools on the table to the labor they represent. It is a tactile, grounded program—less about grand history, more about the calloused hands that shaped it. As with other Gallery 1 events, no registration is required; anyone can walk in and take part.
